Basics

Concrete is one of the oldest construction materials, and is still the most widely used on Planet Earth.  As simple as concrete is, protecting it is a very complex problem. Coatings and sealers sound like good ideas, but they don’t solve the problems of concrete damage, they merely cover them up temporarily. Even “penetrating concrete sealers” like silane and siloxane only penetrate 1/4 inch (6 mm) into the concrete, and only last a few years.

CreteDefender™ is designed to be a permanent solution to the environmental problems affecting concrete: salts and freeze/thaw cycles…alleviating the sources of concrete deterioration.  One easy, yet extremely effective application process with CreteDefender, and your concrete will be protected permanently.

What it is:

CreteDefender is a permanent penetrating concrete sealer. Our non-toxic, non-hazardous, water- based chemical solution is designed to penetrate up to 4 inches (102 mm) and permanently protect, harden, and densify concrete.  CreteDefender contains no VOC’s, is environmentally safe, and won’t harm plants. What it does:

CreteDefender reacts with elements in concrete.  The reaction creates a gel that coats and fills the microscopic pores in the concrete and then hardens – preventing water, salts, and chemicals from entering the concrete and causing damage.  The reaction is permanent, protecting your concrete while not changing the appearance or color of your concrete. How it is applied:

CreteDefender is most effectively and easily applied using a sprayer.  Alternatively, you can pour CreteDefender onto the surface and spread it around using either a stiff broom or a squeegee.  On machine troweled surfaces (smooth surfaces), you will need to use a squeegee to remove any excess CreteDefender 20-30 minutes after application.  See our Application Instructions for complete details on how to apply CreteDefender.

Coverage Rates:

CreteDefender’s coverage depends on the weather conditions under which it is applied and the porosity of the concrete.  In general, you can expect to get 100-150 square feet of coverage per gallon of CreteDefender on the first application, and 125-175 square feet per gallon on the 2nd.  All exterior concrete will need 2 applications.  Coverage on interior, machine troweled concrete is between 150-225 square feet per gallon, and only one application is needed.
